We met with artist Jeff Lee in the Ryan Lee Gallery and he talked to us about his career from being an intern to becoming a Gallery partner. He is a very well educated man, with a fluent vocabulary in the arts world. He speaks with confidence but also make a very good connection with the audience. In my opinion, Mr. Lee is very well prepared and trained for the position. He speaks fluidly about the work and the life of the artists that were exhibited at that moment. I noticed that he has a strong relationship with the artists that he represents and even digs into their archives and into the present and past of their lives to get a better understanding of the meaning the artist wants to express and also he gets engage in brainstorming with the artist to decide how to organize a show or what their next work is going to be about. He represents a group of artists and his particular approach sometimes takes several years to finally get the representation right. He participates in artist’s life before organizing an exhibition as well as in developing new material.  Mr. Lee also travels a lot and stays in tune to new trends occurring all over the world. His schedule follows a visit to the artist’s exhibitions and new exhibition in museums or galleries around the world. His gallery home to an international roster of contemporary artists working in a diverse array of media.

He is interesting in artists that express a view of the world through new medias and also explore various medias in a new way. He is looking for an artist who’s interest is in developing art focused on Asian male masculinity.

May Stevens

Rosa Luxemburg Paintings and works on paper. We saw this exhibition from an artist he represents who is 90 years old and that now has dementia. She depicted the period from during the wars, particularly the woman in that time and now celebrates the 100th anniversary of Luxemburg’s death. The  paintings were very dark and sad, most of them in gray values.

Christian Marclay-

48 war movies

This video is overlapping images which are comprised of forty eight war films of the Civil War up to the recent conflict in Iraq. The scenes meld into an overwhelming prism of war generating a Kaleidoscopic spectacle of images and sound.

Marclay also produced prints -based on the Scream which he created using the Japanese Manga technique, American comics books using digital technology and also printmaking techniques of a collage of woodchip boards. The overall sense of the exhibition is a strong and disturbing place to be.

Mike Cloud- Tears of Abstraction

In this building we can find many studios and places to develop different types of art.

In this particularly exhibition by Mike Cloud I saw other ways to display art and the layers of understanding that a canvas can have. The visual aspect is not very pleasing for me but when I understood the meaning behing the pieces it became more tasteful. The series of destructed canvases is an exploration of suffering and the relationship to death. He is describing a person who has died in each painting and the their names are inscribed on carboard plaques glued onto the stretcher bars along with additional titles. He is questioning shapes, surface and symbols in a abstract way to describe suffering.
